What do REGISTRAR-LOCK and TRANSFER PROHIBITED mean?

This article describes what REGISTRAR-LOCK and TRANSFER PROHIBITED mean.

REGISTRAR-LOCK and TRANSFER PROHIBITED are types of domain status in the WHOIS database.

REGISTRAR-LOCK
This applies to .com and .net domains.
TRANSFER PROHIBITED
This applies to .org, .biz and .info domain names.

When a domain name is set to this status, the domain is locked down and changes and updates can't be made.

Why is this status used?

This status is used to prevent fraudulent transfers of domain names. 123-reg set this as the default for security purposes.

Tip: If you want to make changes to a domain name, please visit the Manage Domain Locking section of your 123-reg.co.uk control panel. You should re-lock your domain once all changes have been made.
